He Sure Has A Lot To Learn About Being President…

February 8, 2017

President Trump could have avoided all the lawsuits and all that protesting if, instead of banning travel from those 7 countries, he dropped 27,000 bombs on them. Per year.
THAT, nobody cares about… It worked wonders for the other guy.

Gullible People, Rise Up!

January 29, 2017
The 19 month election was a fear-con. We were given nothing but NAZI! FASCIST! WE’RE GONNA DIE! over and over.
People were scared and angry.
People are still scared and angry.
Angry, frightened people are very easy to con.
For instance, how many of us believed the story that Trump’s travel ban excluded nations he does business with?
His ban only mentions one nation: SYRIA. The others are “nations of concern” as listed in a law signed by Pres. Obama.
Remember the protest when that happened?
Neither do I.
You may wish to educate yourself HERE

But fear and anger is what led people to buy, without question, the fake story about Trump’s business interests. As if he really has any!
Fooling people by making them scared and angry is such an old technique that there was a Broadway show about exactly this technique.
So if you believed that Trump specifically named 7 countries and excluded those he does business with, then you were played as easily as the corn-fed jays in Iowa.

“What little children learn, they can never forget.”
– Rabbi Sardonicus the Elder (Collected Aphorisms & Sayings, vol. 18)

Surprised by the outburst of anti-Russia sentiments? Not me!
I saw us headed into “Cold War, Part 2” the moment I heard people calling Bernie Sanders a communist who honeymooned in Moscow. At that moment, I had not one doubt that the nation would head in that direction.

The Cold-War brainwashing of the 1940s-1960s lodged deep in the American psyche and there it will stay for at least 3 more generations.

The Anti-Russia propaganda which defined the Cold War filled an atavistic need.  It supplied us with a common enemy, fueled TEAM SPIRIT, and allowed us to cringe in fear without seeming cowardly. After all, the EVIL RUSSIA held our future in their hands!

Such good old days… After the USSR collapsed (as it always gets framed) Americans experienced a surge in jingoistic pride. Then came the let-down. After hating and fearing and feeling smugly superior, we found ourselves all on our own, adrift in a world of peace. Oh, the horror!

Since the USSR died, America has groped blindly for a new Big Enemy so that we may return to those shining days of pride coupled with mortal terror. Over the years, corporate media tried and tried to build up new enemies: Muslims. ISIS. Al Qaeda. Libya. Al-Shabaab… All fell flat, compared to our erstwhile partner in the Dance of Death.

Yes, America failed to find a new enemy, so we had to gag on our pride and return to our comfort zone of fear: Russia.

As the swallows have no choice but to return to Capistrano, America’s destiny always lay back in Russia. We’ve longed to return to hatred and fear of Russia since the days of Mikhail Gorbachev, who ruined everything for us. Without Russia, whatever went wrong in America had to get blamed on… us! Nooooooooooo!!! Not that!!!!

Did you ever wonder about those couples who marry, then divorce, then get back together again, then divorce, then… on and on? Wonder no more! We have returned to our Number One enemy and it goes down like Mac and Cheese for many people.

Old enemies soothe us as nothing else can. So when all the election year fear-mongering hit a boiling point, it quite naturally spilled all over dear old mother Russia. It had to. Predictability-wise, nothing comes close.  The electioneering fear that filled us drove us right back to our DUCK & COVER, “better dead than red” training.

Now see how happy it makes people? John McCain looks positively orgasmic! President Obama gets a new chance to please his parents’ generation. Liberals can now call anyone who disagrees with them TRAITORS! Conservatives can say WE TOLD YOU SO! The bile and vodka have commenced to flow in an orgy of hate and fear. Just like the old days. Our NATIONAL RELIGION HAS RETURNED.

And the benefits have already begun! We have no more internal problems in the Home of the Brave! THE RUSSIANS INSTIGATED EVERYTHING! We have clean hands… No matter what goes wrong, THE RUSSIANS DID IT!

brazile
Oh happy day! Old-Timers have joy on their faces as they slam THE EVIL EMPIRE once again. Younger people can now score points with Gramps as they regurgitate the fears and hatreds of the past, all joining hands again in blast of retro-paranoia.
After decades stumbling in the wilderness, a generation of Americans trained to hate and fear Russia has at last made it back home.

To those who cannot cope with reality as adults, and need to return to the safety of their long-gone childhood, it must feel so damn good.

We can now bask in a warm wave of nostalgia for the bad old days.
Our world has returned to normal.
We can forsake adulthood and return to a childhood where we never have to accept responsibility.

HOORAY!!! We now have the right to hate Russia. Again.

About The Election…

December 8, 2016

This is all I will say on the election for quite some time:

As I listen to noted “progressives” and “leftists” currently bemoaning the election of Donald Trump, it becomes clear that they think we had a marvelously progressive, 180º opposite, Democratic candidate in November and we blew it by picking Hitler.

Don’t they recall what the choice really was?

In setting the record straight, a phrase beloved of Mrs. Clinton’s acolytes as they distorted her record of war and under-achievement, I can only repeat some facts:

1) Polling consistently showed that nearly 60% of Trump voters DO NOT support him. They voted for him only as a way of stopping Hillary Clinton. All the hand-wringing over the “racists” and “nazis” and “angry white people” who allegedly voted for Trump crumbles when this is taken into consideration. But it never is mentioned. It is far easier to demonize and rationalize than to analyze.

2) Scared because Trump denies environmental science? The Democrat “alternative” was also a science denier – one must be a denier in order to support fracking. So we had ZERO choice there.

3) Trump will start WW3? The Democrat “alternative” was also a war-mongering, China threatening, candidate as we witness in her own words: “Russia’s hacked into a lot of things. China’s hacked into a lot of things. Russia even hacked into the Democratic National Committee, maybe even some state election systems. So, we’ve got to step up our game. Make sure we are well defended and able to take the fight to those who go after us. As President, I will make it clear, that the United States will treat cyber attacks just like any other attack. We will be ready with serious political, economic and military responses.”
And then we have her stated desire to “ring China with missile defense” to protect against North Korea and set up a no-fly zone in Syria (where she personally sabotaged a cease-fire), and to rig elections in other nations. She publicly supported the concept and execution of covert wars of regime change.  Zero choice there.

4) Aghast that Trump nominated people from Goldman Sachs and other Wall Street banks to his proposed cabinet? Have we already forgotten the $22,000,000 Wall Street Banks paid to Clinton in just under 24 months? You think they did that with no expectation of results? Again, ZERO choice.

5) Opposing dangerous pipelines an issue? Have we also forgotten the millions of dollars Mrs. Clinton snatched up for speeches made in Canada where she spoke in direct support of the Keystone XL pipeline?  Zero choice again.

6) Libya, Syria, Honduras… and the “progressives” think we mistakenly elected a war-monger? We had no choice BUT to elect one.

7) Worried about the privatization (destruction) of Social Security under Trump? Again, ZERO choice in that regard. Clinton repeatedly spoke of means-testing social security as a way to make it over as welfare for the “neediest recipients,” as she phrased it. And she has a track record, through the Democratic Leadership Council and her support of her “co-president’s” welfare reform, of gutting the safety net. How long before she’d have talked in glowing terms of “ending Social Security as we know it”?

8) Afraid we will lose our precious constitutional rights under Trump? If so… where have you been? Hillary Clinton made her campaign a vote on continuing the Obama legacy. Look at the rights that man took away as he gleefully continued and expanded the “W” legacy. Think SNOWDEN. On this point, I agree with friend John Hubbard who noted that fighting for our rights mean nothing if WW3 busts out, and, as noted above, Clinton showed all the signs of itching to start the Big One. Trump may be a threat to many treasured government protections and programs. Hillary was, as the pentagon calls them, an EXISTENTIAL threat to our very survival. Her insane plans for a no-fly zone in Syria (where the crumbling, feeble ISIS doesn’t have a single aircraft) was meant to provoke the Russians – who in her demented view are the bullies standing between herself and the love her mother denied her. Eliminating this crazy person was priority #1. We took care of that. Now on to fighting Trump if you disagree with him. At least we are alive to do it.

9) Don’t know where Trump stands on issues from day to day? He seems “unpredictable”? Ok. How do you know where Clinton stands? I refer you to WikiLeaks and Clinton’s stunning admission that she holds one position in public and another in private. There is no way of knowing what, aside from her own ambition, Clinton believes in. Again, ZERO choice.

10) Here is the bottom line as I see it: Because of corporate media collusion with the two dominant parties, we had a pair of crappy candidates to decide between. Either way we were going to get a crappy president. With Trump, we got a crappy president AND we got rid of the money grubbing, influence peddling Clinton “dynasty” – including the atrocious Rodham Brothers (conveniently hidden this time around). That is called taking lemons and making lemonade.

—-

Acting as though America elected a despot – when there were two despots running for Imperial President – misses the point and evinces a peculiar form of denial.

Given the choice we had, not the choice we wish we had – to paraphrase old Rumsfeld – I believe the nation made the only proper decision. We shattered Bill Clinton, Inc. and showed the democrats that they cannot run hacks from the past and expect their traditional voters to support them.

Now that voters have eliminated the neo-liberal DLC candidate, we will turn our concentration to the task neutralizing the objectionable parts of Trump’s neo-Reagan agenda.

But that takes work, and it requires letting go of the constant parade of fake predictions that fill news outlets (even as they whine about “fake news”) as if we have not endured 16 straight years of the very things people now claim only Trump will suddenly bring.

Work.

Not whining about the election.

Work.

Not the Oppression Olympics, which says that only certain people have a right to say they will suffer under Trump.

Work.

If you oppose Trump, you have just UNDER TWO YEARS to flip the congress.

That is the same amount of time Hillary Clinton devoted to getting her $22,000,000 from Wall Street.

Don’t Follow Blindly!

Much of the world hails Fidel Castro as a hero of freedom.
Here, he is reviled.
Much of the world considers Barack Obama to be a mad bomber – destroyer of people and nations.
But here he is considered a wonderful, intellectual progressive.
See how experience guides decisions?
What if Mr. Obama droned YOUR town?
What if Cuba sent much needed doctors into your town?
Nothing is as cut and dried as it appears on the surface. Or on a bumper sticker.
When American officials and the news media denounced Nelson Mandela as a bloodthirsty communist terrorist, the African continent knew who their friends were.

News used to be called “The First Draft of History.”

Now? News is mostly thought-control which gets spoon-fed to us by multimillionaires on corporate payrolls. People like this, as many have now come to realize:

screen-shot-2015-06-05-at-8-42-18-am-1280x811

Do you seriously believe that someone who gets paid $30,000 PER DAY (yes, PER DAY) has even the slightest interest in telling us the truth?
Never forget the old adage:

“Whose bread I eat, his song I sing.”

If an informed opinion differs from my own, I try to find out why.

THAT is why all through the election I posted my objections to electing Hillary Clinton and BEGGED her supporters to correct me. I did this time and again. I even offered to vote for Hillary if anyone could overcome HALF of my objections.

None so much as tried. In place of discussing my objections they merely insulted me in the most vile ways. Then the flew off into the Oppression Olympics, saying a person whom they glibly perceived as a well-off white male can NEVER “understand.” A convenient cop-out. And these are the self-described LIBERALS!

In 1964 humorist Jean Shepherd defined a SLOB as any person who doesn’t know the difference between thinking and believing. Shepherd wisely predicted that in the future such people will shut out all thoughts that do not conform to their beliefs. This is a perfect description of BIGOTRY.  The day which Shepherd predicted has indeed arrived. Political partisans have devolved into fundamentalist religious nuts. When I opposed Hillary, I was treated like a heretic who was charged with spitting on the Holy Books. The Ignorati have discovered politics and now bigotry reigns. You are either with them or you are EVIL.

Voter Intimidation Means WE ARE WINNING!

September 28, 2016

Those of us who will not vote for either of the media-selected elderly, unemployed millionaires have taken a lot of attacking for sticking to principles. But we ARE WINNING! Look at this from the President of the United States:

“If you vote for a 3rd party candidate that’s a vote for Trump,” Obama said during an interview on Steve Harvey’s radio show.

Third-Party Voters: THIS IS THE FIRST BIG SIGN THAT WE ARE SUCCESSFUL!

Look how frightened the neoliberals are!
If our “insignificant protest vote” is meaningless, then this would not matter to the President.
With this comment, Obama is saying is HE IS POWERLESS AND THAT WE HAVE THE POWER!

Here is what a republican says:
“So let me be clear: a vote for anyone other than Donald Trump in November is a vote for Hillary Clinton.” – Scott Walker

Isn’t it delicious that Mr. Obama is so frightened of you that he has sunk to the level of SCOTT WALKER?
They are both reduced to SCARE TACTICS because of YOU AND ME saying we will vote our conscience.
They both cannot be right… but they both can most certainly be wrong.

Keep it up, friends! If our votes didn’t matter Obama would never have said this.

And don’t let anyone smugly call your vote “a protest vote” as the Withers do. Voting for a candidate who is on the ballot is NOT a protest, it is a well-reasoned choice. Remember the freedom to choose? I thought “liberals” were big on that. Again, we see the wisdom of Phil Ochs, who sagely observed:

“Liberals are 10º to the left of center in good times but 10º to the right of center when it affects them personally.”

Friends, the condescending dismissal of a rational, thoughtful vote as “protest” is odious on many levels. Not least of which is that America was founded on protest.
Protest is enshrined in our Bill of Rights. The Withers reveal their fascist, anti-American attitude every time they denounce protest. In short: screw ’em. They are not what America is about.

Supreme Court Hysteria… Don’t Buy It!

August 5, 2016

So many people who have only a sketchy idea of how our government operates are quivering in fear over “losing” the Supreme Court. And when that happens ALL OUR RIGHTS WILL BE REPEALED!!!!!

First of all… look at my earlier posts here about FEAR.

People who instill fear in you are playing you. They are manipulating you. They are causing you to FEAR simply to further their own political agenda. There is a word for people who use fear to promote political change: TERRORIST!

So if you are one of those frightened people, take a deep breath and read, because your fears are toothless… BEHOLD:

This may shock some of the people only now paying attention, but the US Supreme Court does not have the final say in anything.

What they do can be undone or even superseded. For over two centuries, our government has had an effective set of CHECKS AND BALANCES which temper radical changes, and prevents any one branch from controlling things. Ask President Obama, who – although wildly popular – cannot get his new right-wing Supreme Court nominee a Senate hearing, and who has had much of his “legacy” tossed out by the courts as unconstitutional.  Those are our checks and balances in action.

You fear: SUPREME COURT WILL ELIMINATE…… whatever your pet cause is…
Well, the court almost never hears cases they have already decided and even Clarence Thomas (put on the court by Democrats!) has often said that they will not reverse “settled law” including Roe v. Wade. To do so would bring utter chaos.

But… what would really happen if they did? Suppose a radical court just decided to reverse all manner things?

To see what would happen, let’s look at a recent time when the Court actually did eliminate something:

In 1972 the Supreme Court voided all death penalty sentences.
And we have not had a person put to death in America since… right?
Right?
Here is how it works.
The court only says that something violates the constitution, in their majority opinion. Not whether it is good or bad, right or wrong. So let’s say they opine that Same Sex Marriage is unconstitutional AS WRITTEN.
Then the laws get re-written. Or, and here is something lawyers know but most citizens do not: Local jurisdictions CANNOT give fewer or less legal rights than the Federal Government does but they CAN give MORE rights than the federal government.
So even if Same Sex Marriage is rejected by SCOTUS, your state and all the states can do it anyway.
And going by the decision that threw it out, the states will tailor the law to survive a court challenge.
Then it will be allowed.

Just as they reintroduced the death penalty.

But it takes… Work.

Hitting the streets. Lobbying. Organizing. And yes, many people worked hard for the right to kill people. Can you work that hard for life-affirming laws you support?

Remember: The Supreme Court is but one PART of one of THREE co-equal branches of our government.
They do not have the final say. Not by a long-shot.
Ask anyone on death row.

Why Does Hillary Need Sanders To Quit?

June 12, 2016

Despite the media spin, after his meeting a few days ago with President Obama, Bernie Sanders clearly stated that he is in this race through to the convention. The video is barely 5 minutes long. See it if you have not seen it yet.
Sanders’ insistence that he will continue irritates the hell out of the Clinton contingent.
Why?
Sanders is talking democracy, and the Clinton crowd calls it sexist, egomania, insanity…
It is democracy. And even Pres. Obama, through his press secretary, said that Sanders has “earned the right” to make his own decision on whether or not to stay in.
So why is this a problem for the Clinton wing of the Democratic party?

Why, if Mrs. Clinton is the “official” Democratic nominee, does she even need Sanders to drop out?

What difference could his staying or going possibly make? This begs examination.

Simply put, If Clinton has the required number of delegates, as she claims she has, then what’s the fuss?  All that will happen is that the convention will hold ONE public round of voting and she will be the nominee.

Cue the deluge of Red, White, and Blue balloons!

🎵 🎵 Happy Days Are Here Again! 🎵 🎵

Blow those horns! Shout! Scream! Cop a feel from the delegate nearest you!

But if this is what will happen, because Clinton has it locked up (right?)… why must Sanders drop out? Isn’t it worth it to the furious “Withers” to humiliate Sanders by making the grumpy sexist egomaniac sit through the whole Megillah, festooned with Clinton’s victory balloons? Does he not have this coming?

Let’s try to find out what is really back of this bizarre demand that a person who has lost… should quit. To that end, I will entertain an exercise in ratiocination.

What is it that is looming in the near future that Sanders will be involved with but that worries Clinton?

Certainly not the DC primary on June 14th. Piffle!

Is it the final California count, which is inching to a close?

No.
These are minor things.

It simply has to have something to do with… the convention.

Something about the convention isn’t quite going “With Her”… What is it?
Let’s Examine the options.

THE CONVENTION PLAYS OUT
Let us say that – as was the case with candidates in the past – Mrs. Clinton, thoroughly convinced that she will be the next president, views the televised convention as the first big, splashy public moment in that presidency – rather than the simple insider nominating process it actually is.

In this case, the convention would assume a larger place in her mind than such a routine process actually holds. It will become crucial as part of  a larger plan.

Clinton, clearly, sees an urgency in stage-managing the convention to salve her own needs, not the needs of the party and not the needs of the system.

A well-oiled coronation will provide Clinton with a Niagara of adoring video clips and sound bites for the coming general election, which in her mind she also has locked up, just like she locked up the nomination. But slick advertising will always be needed – and what is better than images of a cheering, weeping-for-joy throng at the convention?

So what, as things stand now, will the Democratic convention look like?
The delegates from the 50 states and the several territories will place names into nomination and then pledged delegates will be given alphabetically, state by state, territory by territory. You know the drill:

Each state/territory will have its moment in the sun, on national television:

“The great state of Wyoming, gateway to… Wyoming. Home of… Wyominganians… The state that Milt Kamen said does not really exist, DOES exist and casts its delegates – CLINTON 43 (cheers) SANDERS 55, (sustained cheers)!”

Oops. That doesn’t look so good on TV for Clinton, does it.

And on it will go. State by state, territory by territory.

A DEATH BY A THOUSAND CUTS
SANDERS! SANDERS! SANDERS! SANDERS!
will ring out time and again, from each delegation because the democrats didn’t have a “winner take all” primary system (which you can bet the farm they WILL have by 2020).

At three minutes for each geographic location and its delegates, plus interstitial applause and spontaneous cheering, this first round of voting should take no less than three hours. On TV.

SANDERS! SANDERS! SANDERS! SANDERS! will be repeated over and over, as will the spontaneous peals of BERNIE! from the crowd.

For Hillary, who has already claimed the nomination and treats it as a fait accompli, this democratic process will not be just poor optics, it will be the death by a thousand cuts – even if she wins. But she won’t win because:

One by one, the states and territories will mete out delegates and after all that time – Clinton will have gathered more than enough pledged delegates to be declared, under the DNC rules, a “WEAK FRONT-RUNNER.”
Not the nominee. But a “WEAK FRONT-RUNNER.”

Yes, after the first ballot, Hillary Clinton will go down in the history books as the first American woman to ever be declared, by a “Major” Party… a WEAK FRONT-RUNNER.

Swell…

More than three hours of this on international television, beamed around the world and even up to the International Space Station, and at the end of the voting Hillary Clinton, “presumptive” nominee will not have won.

No Balloons… and Happy Days Are not quite here yet.

At this point, Clinton’s claim to have the nomination all sewn up will evanesce, as it is revealed to be premature, at best – and arrogant for sure, since Hillary Clinton arrogated the convention’s responsibility by assuming the mantle of nominee, as though it were a $12,500 Armani coat.

And then following that first round of votes… but after an interminable break for talking heads all over the TV spectrum to say over and over what lousy optics this is for Clinton and how un-leaderly it seems – another round of votes will ensue.

Only, not right away.

More time. A meal break, during which Clinton will avoid the media – something at which she excels considering that as I write this in June of 2016 she has not had an open press conference since December 4, 2015. She will chew on a burger, and chew out her staff in one of her notorious fits of anger. You know what it is like if you saw Clinton bite the head off a Greenpeace representative who asked her a simple question.

For at this stage of the process, after the first vote and with no nominee selected, the Super Delegates we have heard so much about will vote. This is their moment. This is what Super Delegates were created for: To reevaluate the qualities that led the front-runner to be such a weak front-runner that the nomination is could not be given out on the first ballot.

These Super Delegates, there to protect the party from a weak candidate who only manages to scrape together a small majority, have the power to vote for whomever they deem strongest against the Republicans – and you can be sure that the cheering and demonstrations for each candidate seen during the initial vote will influence the process. It is meant to. That is participatory democracy at its finest. Liberals LOVE democracy and free speech right? Right?

And now, the arm twisting and horse-trading will commence. None of this will look good for the “presumed” nominee around the globe – or in outer space – ON TELEVISION.

Clinton may emerge as the nominee at this point, but only after floor fights and demonstrations and maybe with a smaller margin than she had imagined possible given her “inevitable” status.  But get this part perfectly straight: if there is any screwing around with the process all hell will break loose, as it damn well should. Remember, despite unbelievable obstacles, Bernie Sanders has won the support of HALF OF THE DEMOCRATS. The other half loses sight of that at their own peril.

But the convention process – an open and democratic process – apparently does not assuage Clinton’s personal need to seem inevitable, a need so clearly evinced since last year when the DNC named Hillary and Hillary alone as their choice.

Long before a party nominee is selected, the process will show Clinton for exactly what she is: A WEAK FRONT-RUNNER.

UNLESS…
Unless, DRUMROLL, Sanders retreats. Throws in the towel. Capitulates. If he does, then the convention becomes the Hillary Show, unfettered by democracy and untainted by the opinions, beliefs, and principles of half the Democratic party. Good luck with that in November. Keeping Sanders in may be bad for Hillary’s grandiose vision of her place in the world, but it is good for democracy and will be needed to maintain the goodwill of half the party.

And the hypocrisy is…  after quashing democracy (if Sanders quits) or having failed to quash it (as seems the way it is going for her) and going the long way around, Clinton will speak of unity as though she were a Great Healer (the speech is already written, you better believe)

This is why, to Hillary, Sanders has to go. And why, to America, Sanders has to stay.

Hillary’s optics, arrogance, ego, neediness will do her in sooner or later.

For her, it is not enough to win. Everyone else has to be wiped out. Now, where have I heard that before?

Honduras… And Bigoted Voters

March 3, 2016

How many months is that I have been asking Clinton supporters about Honduras?
Not ONE knew anything about this – even while touting her experience as Secretary of State.
What I have heard is bigoted crap like this:
“I want someone with a womb in the White House at least one time before I die,” Mrs. DeBose said.
Experience? Here’s a victim of Mrs. Clinton’s experience:
“As is well known, she supported the coup d’etat in my country, which has sunk a very worthy and bleeding land further into abject poverty, violence, and militarism. She is part of those who consider only some lives to be legitimate, obviously not rebel women and women of color that live here and who do not, at least not all, fit in with imperial interests.”

Shame on all the low-information, prejudiced voters who let something as inane as body organs or religion be the deciding factor.
And you are so damn PROUD of it.  Proud of being shallow and a bigot…
You have ceded all moral authority over people who support a candidate only for being a white male xian. Or opposed Pres. Obama because the other candidate was white. You are cut from the same cloth. You are sexist. Just sexist as someone who will not vote for any woman.
That makes you hypocrites, plain and simple.

If you are a member of the restricted TIME FOR A WOMAN clan, try learning about ISSUES not GONADS, as many other voters have done.
Look up Honduras and see the beast you support based only on gender.
(And, no, I do not support Sanders because… I want someone with a foreskin in the White House at least one time before I die.  See how you sound?)

Why Are People Afraid Of Being Wrong?

January 9, 2016

If I had to isolate one personality characteristic most common in Social Media, it has to be FEAR.

Fear is not evident in everyone (especially not in those on my friend list!) but it sure is out there and running wild. Fear of damn near everything is bad enough – but mostly in chats I have observed a strange fear of being WRONG about something. For example, one person on Facebook just BLOCKED me after sending a snotty message because I DARED to mention that contrary to her assertion, New York’s Lincoln Center is not located on 68th Street. This demonstrable fact upset her. Why? I have no idea, but her reaction is not atypical.

I recently listed FBI stats in a NY Times comment section (the lowest form of Social Media) showing that terrorism in the USA is mostly non-Muslim. “Uh, NO!” came one brilliant reply from a master of forensics.

I have repeatedly asked Hillary supporters to give me one reason SHE should get any votes. If a specific reason is ever cited, a rare happening, it always turns out to be wrong – which I gracefully explain using a new invention called FACTS. Invariably, these facts are dismissed with a wave of the phrase “you are a hater!” and then I am usually compared to a lower bodily orifice. Why? Because a cherished belief turned out to be wrong. To Hillary supporters, merely correcting their mistakes about her record is like asking a jesus-christer if Mary really was a virgin.

BEING WRONG IS NOT A SHAMEFUL THING

Acknowledging an error, and acknowledging ignorance, is the first ESSENTIAL step in the process of LEARNING. Yet time and again we see people who have false beliefs which they cling to in spite of facts. This is evidence of fear, and when fear takes hold, facts mean nothing.

We are ALL ignorant concerning many things. How could it be otherwise?

Does anyone seriously think they know everything? Yet the words “I do not know” seem to be the most difficult things for many people to string together. Rather than say “I do not know”, they will fabricate “facts.” Then, they cling to the fabrication with religious zeal. They simply cannot tolerate being wrong. This is where the lie that 99% of terrorists are Muslim comes from.  Prove this is wrong, which is easy, and all hell breaks loose.

Why is this? I don’t know many more things than things I do know. How could it be otherwise? Yet people go to war over the supposed SHAME of being wrong about something. They not only refuse to acknowledge an error, they double down. They act just like Bush/Cheney/Powell on the subject of WMD (and STILL people insist that there WERE WMD even though “W” once slipped up and admitted otherwise.)

Think of Donald Drumpf clinging to his demonstrably erroneous belief that thousands upon thousands of Muslims over in Jersey City cheered on 9/11/01. Or that Paris is a city in Germany.

This is part of Drumpf’s appeal to a generally disturbed public. He is simply incapable of acknowledging a mistake. And he is cheered for this ignorant intransigence as though it were an asset. He also must be keenly aware that if he does say he was wrong he will lose his most ardent – and ignorant – supporters. They would turn on him faster than Drumpf can bankrupt a casino.

Putting fear-based people in positions of authority will always lead to death and destruction on a global scale. Until America rids itself of fear, people exactly like “W,” who live in constant fear (as do most dry drunks), will hold a deep appeal to voters. Look at the millions of deaths and the widespread destruction “W” caused in his panic over supposed “evil doers” he saw everywhere.

This is not Bush’s fault, nor is it Drumpf’s fault. Sick people will always elect other sick people. It is inevitable. And the sickest among us will never seek help, for in our culture “YOU SHOULD HAVE YOUR HEAD EXAMINED” is a deep, deep insult. When you break a leg, is: “YOU SHOULD GET THAT X-RAYED” an insult? No, nor should it be.

Sick people whose addiction is fear will never let go of that fear. They need it. They are accustomed to it. It is in the warp and woof of their personal fabric, planted there ages ago and nurtured with all the loving care an addict always give to their drug of choice.

This fear is nothing new. 1919 was a year of monumental fear in America – and that is when this book was written. It sure resonates today.

I wrote an introduction to this new edition, putting it all in its historical context. If we want and desire true happiness and freedom, we need to beak the cycle of fear. Fear-based people will only spread fear in the Home of the Brave.
