Where is the Bill?

July 1, 2017

More than 3 months have now passed since Senator Bernie Sanders said he would introduce a single-payer bill.
Sanders said this in reaction to the republican’s failed attempt to strike down the flawed ACA.

Back in March…

He never did it. His worshipers claim, in a revealingly messianic message, “It is on the way.”
This failure of Sanders to follow-up on his boast after “Trumpcare” died no doubt emboldened the republicans, because they almost immediately tried it again; this time with a bill crafted in the Senate.
TWO attempts to kill the ACA in the first half of the year, back-to-back, and Sanders did nothing. Except talk and beg for money to continue talking.
Naturally, the Dead-End Berners have an all-purpose excuse for this lack of action; an excuse that directly contradicts their IT’S ON THE WAY dodge:
“You expect Single-Payer to pass in a republican congress?”
I have a short, three-part answer to this variation of the “They Fought Obama For 8 Years” excuse:
1) Your fear that a bill will not succeed is not a sufficient reason for failing to introduce it. The value in having the bill in the senate is that even if it fails, we solid get a record of who supported it and who did not.
2) Over 73% of the public wants Single-Payer. Most Americans will gladly pay more in taxes to have it. So your handy-dandy pessimism as an excuse is unwarranted. Failure is far from a foregone conclusion.
3) In case you don’t know… all long journeys begin with but a single step. NOT taking that single step is what guarantees failure. Introducing a Single-Payer bill in the senate IS that step.
